SMALL BUSINESS DENTAL INSURANCE

Benefits of a small business dental insurance plan

A small business dental insurance plan has many benefits. A group can choose from several PPO and HMO plans, whereas an individual's only option is the dental program that the health insurance provider offers (if they offer any at all). The cost of the plan is usually low, since most participating dentists agree to provide services at fees that are typically below the average charges in their communities. With most plans you are free to choose even out-of-network dentist, although the reimbursement levels will be slightly lower in this case. Participating dentists undergo an extensive screening process, which includes practice patterns, emergency care arrangements, and malpractice coverage and history.

How group dental insurance works

A small business dental insurance plan provides the same coverage for all the members in the plan. The rates are also the same for each individual, regardless of the dental condition of the individual member. Most plans have a very low deductible (in the range of $25-$150). The plan covers a maximum spending, which typically varies between $750 and $2000. Small business dental insurance plans come in a variety of shapes and sizes (e.g. PPO, HMO and POS). You have the freedom to pick whichever ones you want for your business, but you do not have the freedom to choose different plans for different employees. You have to go with the same plan(s) for the entire group. It is up to the employee to choose a plan from the employer's selection.

The cost of small business dental insurance plans

Dental insurance premiums are fixed, based on your industry and state. There is no underwriting process involved in small business dental insurance plans. Not all employees of businesses that offer group dental insurance plans will be compelled to join the plan, despite the fact that an employee will pay more as an individual than as part of a group for the same type of coverage. They certainly have the right to decline the coverage. As long as a minimum of 2 employees sign up, you are considered a group.

It is good to know that no insurance company in any state can refuse to sell you a small business dental insurance plan, provided they offer coverage to other small groups and you meet the state's minimum requirements concerning the type of organization you are insuring and the number of members in that group. Unlike with small business health insurance plans, the employer is NOT required to pay a percentage of an employee's individual premium or that of their dependants.
